1. LM2904DT Substitution Conclusion The LM2904DT is a viable substitute for the LM258ADRE4. Both devices are industry-standard dual general-purpose operational amplifiers with highly aligned core specifications: they share a gain bandwidth product (GBWP) of 700kHz and an input offset voltage of 2mV. Their supply voltage ranges (3V to 30/32V) and output drive capabilities (40mA) are virtually identical, and they are pin-compatible. The primary differences lie in the slew rate and quiescent current. The LM2904DT offers a slew rate of 0.6V/µs, which is double that of the original part (0.3V/µs), providing superior response to rapidly changing signals. However, its quiescent current (700µA total) is slightly higher than that of the LM258ADRE4 (500µA typical per channel, or ~1mA total for the dual op-amp). For the vast majority of general-purpose amplification, filtering, and comparator applications, these differences are typically non-critical, making the substitution acceptable. However, if the application has stringent requirements for ultra-low power consumption, a thorough evaluation is recommended.
2. BA10358F-E1 Substitution Conclusion Direct substitution of the LM258ADRE4 with the BA10358F-E1 carries significant risk and requires careful assessment. While the supply voltage range is compatible and the package outline is similar, several key performance parameters are notably degraded. The BA10358F-E1 exhibits a lower gain bandwidth product (500kHz) and a slower slew rate (0.2V/µs) compared to the original part. This will adversely affect the circuit's frequency response, signal processing speed, and large-signal settling time. Furthermore, its input bias current (45nA) is three times higher than that of the LM258ADRE4 (15nA), which can introduce greater error in applications with high-impedance signal sources. Additionally, its output drive current capability (20mA) is only half that of the original part, potentially rendering it unable to drive the same load. Unless the application has extremely low requirements for bandwidth, speed, and output drive capability, direct replacement is not recommended.
