1. LM2904AM8-13 Substitution Conclusion
From an electrical performance perspective, the LM2904AM8-13 is a viable substitute for the original part. However, package incompatibility is a primary constraint. It matches the original device in key parameters (bandwidth, slew rate) while offering improved input offset voltage (1mV vs. 3mV) and a wider supply voltage range (36V vs. 26V), providing performance advantages in applications requiring higher DC precision or higher operating voltages. Its quiescent current is slightly higher (700μA vs. 500μA), which will lead to moderately increased power dissipation and die temperature. The most critical difference lies in its narrower 8-MSOP package (3.00mm width) compared to the original 8-TSSOP package (4.40mm width). The PCB land patterns are incompatible, preventing direct drop-in installation. A board redesign or an adapter solution is therefore mandatory.
2. LM2904ATH-13 Substitution Conclusion
The LM2904ATH-13 is a highly recommended, near-direct replacement option. It offers the same performance benefits as the LM2904AM8-13—namely, the improved 1mV input offset voltage and wider 36V supply range—while maintaining full package compatibility with the original part (8-TSSOP, 4.40mm width). This allows for a true pin-for-pin, pad-for-pad replacement on the PCB. Although its quiescent current also increases from 500μA to 700μA, requiring thermal evaluation in extremely power-sensitive or high-temperature, confined applications, the advantages of enhanced precision and voltage headroom are more significant for the vast majority of general-purpose op-amp circuits. It can be directly swapped into the design without any modifications.
