1. ICL3243ECAZ Substitution Conclusion
The ICL3243ECAZ can conditionally replace the original part TRS3243ECDBR. Both devices share identical package (28-SSOP), supply range (3V to 5.5V), driver/receiver count (3/5), and hysteresis characteristics. However, the ICL3243ECAZ supports a data rate of only 250 kbps, approximately half that of the original part (500 kbps). If the application's required communication baud rate is below 250 kbps (e.g., standard serial ports under 115.2 kbps), a drop-in replacement is feasible. Nevertheless, the actual system should be evaluated for potential transient high-load conditions or future upgrade needs. This substitution is not recommended for designs requiring high data rates or margin redundancy.
2. ICL3243ECVZ Substitution Conclusion
The ICL3243ECVZ is not recommended as a direct replacement for the original TRS3243ECDBR. In addition to the reduced data rate of 250 kbps, its package is changed to a narrower 28-TSSOP (4.40mm width), which is incompatible with the physical footprint and pin pitch of the original 28-SSOP (5.30mm width). A PCB layout redesign is mandatory, and this change may affect assembly process and mechanical stability. This device could be considered as an alternative only after a hardware revision, provided the system meets low-speed communication requirements and accepts the package change. Direct replacement is not viable.
