1. ADT75ARZ-REEL7 Substitution Conclusion
This device can serve as a substitute, but it is not a direct drop-in replacement. Software evaluation and validation are required. The ADT75ARZ-REEL7 is fully compatible with the original part in terms of core interface (I2C/SMBus), supply voltage range (2.7V to 5.5V), package (8-SOIC), and typical accuracy. The key differences are as follows: First, the resolution is increased to 12-bit (from the original 11-bit), resulting in finer temperature data output (LSB changes from 0.125°C to 0.0625°C). The register format for reading data may differ, necessitating adjustments to the software parsing logic. Second, the lower temperature range limit is extended to -55°C (from -40°C). This is an advantage in extreme low-temperature applications but has no impact in general use cases. Third, regarding functional features, it adds a "Programmable Limit" function but lacks "Programmable Resolution" and "Standby Mode." Unlike the original part, it cannot trade off power consumption against conversion speed by configuring the resolution. Additionally, the power-down mode control logic may differ. While it is mechanically and electrically compatible for direct installation, the driver code must be modified according to its datasheet to adapt to the new resolution register and functional control bits. It is also essential to verify whether the absence of the programmable resolution feature affects system performance.
2. STTS75M2F Substitution Conclusion
This device is a highly close to direct drop-in replacement, with only the compatibility of the I2C address and register mapping requiring focused verification. The STTS75M2F is nearly identical to the original part in terms of interface, supply voltage, package, resolution (11-bit), and functional features (both include programmable resolution and standby mode). It also offers a wider lower operating temperature limit (-55°C). The sole difference lies in accuracy: its specified accuracy is ±3°C across the full -55°C to 125°C range (same as the TMP75A), whereas the TMP75A offers an optimized accuracy of ±2°C within the -25°C to 85°C range. Within the commonly used ambient temperature range, the accuracy of the ST part may be slightly inferior, but this is unlikely to be significant for most applications. The substitution feasibility is very high. However, to ensure error-free operation, it is critical to confirm before replacement that the key parameters in the specific application—especially the I2C device address and the address mapping of the configuration and temperature registers—are identical between the two devices. If they match, the replacement can be nearly seamless. If differences exist, the corresponding address definitions in the software must be adjusted.
