1. TL084CPT Substitution Conclusion
The TL084CPT is a viable and excellent drop-in replacement for the TL074CPW. Both are classic quad JFET-input operational amplifiers with fully compatible pinouts. Key differences are as follows: The TL084CPT offers a wider supply voltage range (6V to 36V vs. 10V to 30V), providing greater application flexibility. It features a lower input bias current (20pA vs. 65pA), resulting in reduced loading effects on high-impedance signal sources. Its slew rate is slightly higher (16V/µs vs. 13V/µs), offering modestly improved high-frequency large-signal response, although its gain-bandwidth product is marginally lower (4MHz vs. 5.25MHz), a difference negligible for most applications. Furthermore, the TL084CPT is AEC-Q100 automotive-grade qualified, typically offering advantages in reliability and operating temperature range. For the vast majority of applications, the TL084CPT can directly replace the TL074CPW, delivering equivalent or superior performance.
2. ADA4077-4ARUZ-R7 Substitution Conclusion
The ADA4077-4ARUZ-R7 is not a viable direct replacement for the TL074CPW, as their core designs and performance targets are fundamentally different. The ADA4077 is a precision amplifier utilizing a bipolar input stage. It offers exceptional DC precision due to its very low input offset voltage (15µV vs. 3mV) and excellent offset voltage drift (unspecified but superior). However, its input bias current (400pA vs. 65pA) is significantly higher than that of JFET types, making it unsuitable for high-impedance signal source applications. Its slew rate is extremely low (1.2V/µs vs. 13V/µs), rendering it completely incapable of handling medium-speed signals or large signals requiring fast settling, tasks the TL074 handles readily. While its lower quiescent current (400µA vs. 1.4mA per channel) is beneficial for low-power designs, its output drive capability is also weaker (10mA vs. a typical >20mA). The ADA4077 is suitable only for applications with stringent precision and power consumption requirements involving very low-frequency signals. It cannot replace the TL074's role in general-purpose, audio, or medium-to-high-speed signal conditioning circuits.
