1. TL084CD Substitution Conclusion
The TL084CD cannot serve as a direct replacement for the TL3474ACD in most general-purpose applications. Although both devices share compatible packages and identical slew rates, key differences limit their interchangeability. The TL084CD employs a J-FET input stage, offering a significantly lower input bias current (30 pA) compared to the BJT input of the TL3474ACD (100 nA). This makes the TL084CD preferable for high-impedance signal sources and contributes to its lower power consumption (1.4mA). However, the TL084CD has a narrower supply voltage range (10-30V), weaker output drive capability (10mA), and a higher input offset voltage (3mV). Consequently, it is unsuitable for original TL3474ACD designs that require wide supply voltage operation, must drive heavier loads, or demand high DC precision.
2. TL074ID Substitution Conclusion
The TL074ID can be considered a conditional substitute in specific scenarios, but requires careful evaluation. Similar to the TL084CD, the TL074ID is a J-FET input amplifier, offering the advantages of low input bias current (65 pA) and low power consumption (1.4mA). It also features a higher gain-bandwidth product (5.25 MHz), which may provide better performance in high-frequency, small-signal processing. However, it shares the inherent limitations of J-FET types: a restricted supply voltage range (10-30V), unspecified (and typically weak) output current capability, and a relatively high input offset voltage (3mV). If the original TL3474ACD design does not fully utilize its wide supply range, high output current, or low offset characteristics, the TL074ID presents a viable, high-performance, low-power upgrade option. Otherwise, it is not recommended.
