Alternative Part
1. LMV358M Substitution Conclusion
The LMV358M cannot serve as a direct replacement for the MAX4489ASA+, as the two devices exhibit significant differences in key performance parameters. They are only compatible in terms of supply voltage range and package type.
The MAX4489 is a high-precision, high-speed operational amplifier featuring extremely low input bias current (1 pA), very low input offset voltage (70 µV), high bandwidth (42 MHz), and high slew rate (10 V/µs). It is suitable for applications requiring precision signal conditioning or high-speed signal processing.
In contrast, the LMV358M is a general-purpose op-amp. Its input bias current (15 nA) is four orders of magnitude higher, its offset voltage (1.7 mV) is about 24 times larger, and its bandwidth (1 MHz) and slew rate (1 V/µs) are more than an order of magnitude lower. Substituting with the LMV358M would result in significantly increased DC error, severely limited signal bandwidth, and degraded dynamic response, likely failing to meet the original design’s requirements for precision or speed.
However, the LMV358M has much lower quiescent current (210 µA per channel) compared to the MAX4489 (2.5 mA per channel). If the original application only requires driving high‑current loads (the LMV358M offers higher output current) and has no demands for precision or speed, substitution could be cautiously evaluated. Otherwise, it is strongly not recommended.
