1. AD8047ARZ-REEL7 Substitution Conclusion Direct substitution is not recommended. While the AD8047 slightly outperforms or matches the original OPA657 in slew rate (750 V/µs) and quiescent current (5.8 mA), it exhibits significant deficiencies in key performance parameters. Its -3dB bandwidth (250 MHz) is only 71% of the OPA657's (350 MHz). More critically, its input bias current (1 µA) is one million times higher than the OPA657's (1 pA), and its input offset voltage (1 mV) is ten times worse (100 µV). In applications demanding high precision and high input impedance—such as photodiode transimpedance amplification or high-impedance sensor signal conditioning—the AD8047 would introduce substantial input error and offset. It is entirely incapable of meeting the precision and low-noise performance achievable with the original part and is therefore unsuitable for any scenario sensitive to input errors.
2. AD8048ARZ Substitution Conclusion Substitution is conditionally feasible and requires careful evaluation of the application requirements. The AD8048 offers advantages in dynamic performance: its slew rate (1000 V/µs) significantly exceeds the OPA657's (700 V/µs), and its -3dB bandwidth (260 MHz), while slightly lower, remains in the same order of magnitude. Its lower quiescent current (5.9 mA) also contributes to power savings. However, similar to the AD8047, its input precision is a critical weakness, with input bias current (1 µA) and offset voltage (1 mV) several orders of magnitude worse than the OPA657. Substitution may be considered only in applications that do not rely on high input precision and low input bias current—such as video driving, ADC buffering, or IF amplification, where speed is prioritized over DC accuracy—and where the supply voltage range (6-12V) is compatible. In these specific cases, the AD8048 can serve as a higher-speed, more power-efficient alternative. For any precision amplification or high-impedance source signal processing, substitution is not viable.
