Original Part
1. LM431AIZ Substitution Conclusion
The LM431AIZ is fully compatible with the TL431AILPE3 in terms of basic functionality (adjustable shunt reference, 36V voltage rating, 100mA output current) and package, allowing for direct replacement. However, two critical differences exist: its initial accuracy is ±2% (inferior to the TI part’s ±1%), and its minimum cathode operating current is 1mA (higher than TI’s 700µA). In circuits requiring high reference voltage accuracy, such as precision measurement or AD/DA reference applications, direct substitution may increase overall system error. In low-power or light-load applications, the higher cathode current may introduce unnecessary power dissipation or affect normal operation. It can be considered an acceptable substitute only in general-purpose regulation or protection circuits where precision and power consumption are not critical.
2. LM431CCZ Substitution Conclusion
The LM431CCZ is identical to the original part in package and basic electrical parameters, while offering improved initial accuracy of ±0.5% (significantly better than the TI part’s ±1%) and a typical temperature coefficient of 50ppm/°C. The only remaining difference is the minimum cathode operating current of 1mA (higher than TI’s 700µA). In the vast majority of applications, the CCZ not only serves as a direct replacement but also provides a more stable reference voltage and better temperature performance. Only in designs with stringent ultra-low quiescent current requirements—such as standby circuits in battery-powered devices—should the impact of the increased operating current on system power targets be verified. Overall, the LM431CCZ is a high-performance and reliable alternative.
