1. ADM1485JRZ-REEL Substitution Conclusion
From the perspective of core electrical interface and package, the ADM1485JRZ-REEL can serve as a direct, performance-upgraded replacement for the SP485EMN-L. Both are 5V-powered, half-duplex transceivers in an 8-SOIC package and are pin-compatible. The primary differences are that the ADM1485JRZ-REEL offers a significantly higher data rate (30 Mbps) compared to the original part (10 Mbps), making it superior for high-speed communication applications. Furthermore, its receiver hysteresis (70 mV) is substantially greater than the original's 20 mV. This provides enhanced noise immunity and more stable data reception in harsh bus environments with electrical noise or signal ringing. Direct substitution will therefore improve overall system communication robustness.
2. ADM3485EARZ-REEL Substitution Conclusion
The ADM3485EARZ-REEL is not a direct replacement for the SP485EMN-L due to a critical incompatibility. Although both share the same package and data rate (10 Mbps), their core operating supply voltages differ fundamentally: the ADM3485EARZ-REEL operates at 3.3V (3V to 3.6V), while the original part is specified for 5V (4.75V to 5.25V). If directly substituted into a 5V system, the ADM3485EARZ-REEL will not function correctly, as its logic levels and bus voltage levels are mismatched. To use this device, the entire transceiver circuit supply and any associated logic interface voltages must be adjusted to a 3.3V system. While its receiver hysteresis (50 mV) is higher than the original part's, which is beneficial for noise immunity, this does not overcome the fundamental barrier of voltage incompatibility.
