1. LM258D Substitution Conclusion The LM258D is largely unsuitable as a direct replacement. The fundamental discrepancy lies in its architecture: it is a general-purpose standard (bipolar-input) operational amplifier, whereas the original part is a J-FET input op-amp. This results in an input bias current (20nA vs. 0.3pA) that is nearly seven orders of magnitude higher, an input offset voltage (3mV vs. 300µV) that is ten times worse, and severely inadequate bandwidth (1.1 MHz vs. 12.5 MHz) and slew rate (0.3V/µs vs. 20V/µs). The LM258D is completely incapable of meeting the demands of the original part's intended critical applications, such as high-impedance sensor signal conditioning, precision integration, and high-speed, low-error sample-and-hold circuits. It is only suitable for general-purpose amplification or filtering where input error and speed requirements are extremely low.
2. OP285GSZ-REEL Substitution Conclusion The OP285GSZ-REEL is a viable and performance-comparable substitute in most scenarios, with one key distinction requiring attention. Like the original part, it features a J-FET input architecture, with very similar bandwidth (9 MHz vs. 12.5 MHz) and slew rate (22V/µs vs. 20V/µs). Its input offset voltage (35µV vs. 300µV) is superior, and its supply voltage range is compatible. However, its input bias current (100nA) is significantly higher than that of the original part (0.3pA). In applications demanding picoampere-level input currents, such as with ultra-high impedance sources (e.g., photodiodes) or in precision integrators, the OP285 may introduce greater error. Furthermore, the OP285 is a unity-gain stable amplifier, whereas the ISL28210 may require external frequency compensation. Loop stability must therefore be verified during the substitution process.
