1. SP485EEN-L Substitution Conclusion
The SP485EEN-L is fully compatible in function and package with the original part and can serve as a direct drop-in replacement. The differences lie in the data rate (10Mbps vs. 1Mbps) and receiver hysteresis (20mV vs. 25mV). The higher data rate supports faster communication and represents a performance upgrade, being more than adequate within the original design's bandwidth. The slightly lower receiver hysteresis results in a minor reduction in noise margin under equivalent noise conditions. However, for the vast majority of applications, this difference falls within acceptable limits. Furthermore, its supply voltage range (4.75V–5.25V) is entirely within the original part's range (4.5V–5.5V), ensuring excellent power supply compatibility.
2. SP3485CN-L/TR Substitution Conclusion
The SP3485CN-L/TR is not a viable direct substitute for the original part. The primary obstacle is the completely incompatible supply voltage (3.0V–3.6V vs. 4.5V–5.5V). Installing this device on an existing 5V system board would prevent proper operation and could cause damage. Although it offers a higher data rate (10Mbps) and shares the same package footprint, the voltage discrepancy is fundamental. This part is only suitable for new designs based on 3.3V logic and power systems, or for applications where the entire power architecture can be modified.
