1. LM258AYDT Substitution Conclusion The LM258AYDT is not recommended as a direct substitute for the OPA2137. The core difference lies in their input stages: the LM258AYDT is a standard bipolar-input operational amplifier with a typical input bias current of 20nA, whereas the OPA2137 features a J-FET input with a bias current of merely 5pA—a difference of three orders of magnitude. In applications critically sensitive to input current, such as high-impedance sensor interfaces or precision integrators, the LM258AYDT would introduce significant error current, severely degrading DC output offset and failing to maintain the original design's accuracy. Furthermore, its slew rate (0.6V/µs) is substantially lower than that of the original part (3.5V/µs), resulting in markedly slower dynamic response. While it offers AEC-Q100 automotive qualification and an overlapping operating voltage range, these advantages do not compensate for the fundamental parametric mismatch inherent to its non-FET input architecture.
2. TS512AIYDT Substitution Conclusion The TS512AIYDT is also not recommended as a direct replacement for the OPA2137. Although it outperforms the LM258AYDT in bandwidth (3 MHz) and slew rate (1.5V/µs) and offers a lower input offset voltage (500µV), it remains a standard bipolar-input amplifier with a typical input bias current of 50nA. This represents a four-order-of-magnitude discrepancy compared to the J-FET input OPA2137 (5pA). This fundamental distinction renders it unsuitable for any application requiring the ultra-low input current characteristic of J-FET amplifiers, such as photodiode amplifiers or high-impedance buffers. Additionally, its output drive capability (23mA) is significantly weaker than that of the original part (60mA), which could become a bottleneck when driving heavier loads. Despite its automotive certification, it is entirely incompatible in the critical input-stage characteristics.
