1. LT1498IS8 Substitution Conclusion
The LT1498IS8 is not recommended as a direct substitute in the vast majority of applications requiring the critical characteristics of the original J-FET amplifier. The core difference lies in the input stage architecture: the original part is a J-FET type, whereas the LT1498 is a "standard" type (typically BJT input). This results in a five-order-of-magnitude disparity in input bias current (5 pA vs. 250 nA), causing the LT1498 to introduce significant DC error and noise in circuits with high-impedance sources or in precision integrators. Furthermore, its significantly inferior slew rate (6V/µs vs. 61V/µs) and bandwidth (10.5 MHz vs. 16.3 MHz) severely limit signal processing speed and fidelity. The reduced output drive current (30 mA vs. 79 mA) also limits its load-driving capability. Its sole advantage is a wider supply voltage range (2.2-36V). Substitution may only be considered in non-critical, low-frequency, low-impedance applications where input bias current, speed, and drive capability are not requirements.
2. LT1498CS8TRPBF Substitution Conclusion
The LT1498CS8TRPBF is electrically identical to the LT1498IS8 in all key performance parameters. The distinction between them typically lies only in grade specifications such as operating temperature range (the "I" grade is typically industrial, the "C" grade commercial). Therefore, the substitution conclusion is identical to that for the LT1498IS8 above: it is not recommended as a direct replacement. The same critical differences apply: the radically different input stage architecture causes a massive increase in input bias current (from pA to nA levels), which would compromise the ultra-low input current characteristics the original design relies on. The substantial reduction in slew rate and bandwidth renders the circuit incapable of handling mid-to-high frequency or fast transient signals. The decreased output current may affect direct load driving. When selecting this part, in addition to evaluating whether the aforementioned performance degradation is acceptable, one must also verify that its temperature range meets the product requirements.
