1. LM2902D Substitution Conclusion
The LM2902D can serve as a replacement for the MC3403D, with one critical limitation: its maximum operating voltage (26V) is lower than that of the MC3403D (30V). In original designs where the supply voltage exceeds 26V, the LM2902D cannot be used as a direct substitute. However, for systems operating between 3V and 26V, the LM2902D is an excellent low-power upgrade option. It reduces quiescent current by half (from 2.8mA to 1.4mA) and lowers input bias current by an order of magnitude (from 200nA to 20nA). This improvement is beneficial for enhancing measurement accuracy with high-impedance signal sources. Additionally, its gain-bandwidth product (1.2 MHz) is slightly higher. The minor reduction in slew rate (0.5V/µs) has negligible impact in typical applications.
2. LM324AD Substitution Conclusion
The LM324AD is a near-perfect direct replacement and upgrade for the MC3403D. It maintains the identical wide supply voltage range (3V to 30V) while offering significant performance enhancements: quiescent current is halved to 1.4mA, which benefits battery-powered applications; input bias current is drastically reduced to 15nA, minimizing errors caused by input current; and the gain-bandwidth product is increased to 1.3 MHz, providing slightly better AC performance. Its slew rate (0.5V/µs) matches that of the LM2902D and is slightly lower than the original part's 0.6V/µs. For the typical use cases of such general-purpose op-amps, this difference is generally acceptable. In the vast majority of applications, the LM324AD can directly replace the MC3403D, delivering lower power consumption and higher precision.
