Alternative Part
The MIC184YM-TR can serve as a viable substitute for the TCN75-3.3MOA713, provided the application does not require programmable limit functionality, as the two devices are fully compatible in package (8-SOIC) and supply voltage range (2.7V–5.5V). The following differences should be evaluated:
First, the MIC184YM-TR supports both local and remote temperature sensing, with a remote measurement range of –55°C to 125°C, whereas the TCN75 is limited to local sensing only. This makes the substitute suitable for broader sensing requirements; however, if the original design only uses local temperature measurement, this difference is irrelevant.
Second, the resolution improves from 8-bit to 9-bit, providing finer temperature readings and higher data precision.
Third, the output interface expands from I²C to I²C/SMBus, enhancing compatibility with system management buses. If the original system only uses standard I²C, the interface can be directly replaced without issue.
Fourth, the MIC184YM-TR lacks the Programmable Limit feature. If the original design relies on this function for temperature threshold control, software or external circuitry must be implemented to replicate the behavior when substituting the part.
Finally, accuracy is improved to ±2°C over 0°C to 100°C (±3°C over the full range), compared to the TCN75’s ±3°C accuracy only within 25°C to 100°C. This gives the substitute more reliable measurement performance across typical operating conditions.
In summary, substitution is feasible, but pin compatibility and software adaptation must be verified, with particular attention to the impact of any missing features.
