However, it is not viable as a general-purpose replacement due to fundamental differences in their key performance parameters. The primary distinctions are as follows: First, data rate. The original part (20 Mbps) operates at 40 times the speed of the substitute (500 kbps). The ADM3075 cannot support any high-speed communication above 500 kbps; direct substitution would result in communication failure or a severe degradation in reliability. Second, receiver hysteresis. The ADM3075's hysteresis (100 mV) is substantially higher than that of the original part (25 mV). While the substitute offers superior noise immunity in electrically noisy industrial environments, this comes at the cost of requiring a larger minimum signal swing. Consequently, it may fail to correctly receive data in applications with poor signal integrity or weak signals. Furthermore, the ADM3075 carries automotive-grade certification, offering advantages in reliability and environmental robustness over the commercial-grade original part. This is accompanied by higher cost, which may be unnecessary for non-automotive applications. Substitution should only be considered for low-speed applications where the communication baud rate is below 500 kbps and the operating environment suffers from severe electromagnetic interference. In all other cases, a device with a matching data rate specification must be selected.
