1. LM1458MX Substitution Conclusion
Direct substitution is not recommended and should only be considered under exceptional circumstances. The LM1458MX differs in its minimum operating voltage requirement of 36V (effectively ±18V or a single 36V supply). In original designs with supply voltages below 36V (such as common 3.3V, 5V, 12V, or 24V rails), it will fail to operate entirely. Furthermore, its quiescent current (2.3mA per channel) is over three times higher than the original part's (0.7mA per channel), which will significantly increase system power consumption and may cause thermal issues. Additionally, its output drive capability (20mA) is only half that of the original (40mA), potentially rendering it unable to drive the same load. Substitution is likely to cause system failure or degraded performance, unless your application specifically uses a stable ±15V or 36V single supply and has relaxed requirements for power consumption and output current.
2. TL062ACDE4 Substitution Conclusion
Conditional substitution is viable; it is a potential alternative with a different performance profile. The primary difference of the TL062ACDE4 is its J-FET input technology, resulting in an input bias current (30pA) nearly three orders of magnitude lower than the original BJT-input part (20nA). This can substantially reduce error in circuits with high-impedance signal sources, such as sensors. Its gain-bandwidth product (1 MHz) and slew rate (3.5 V/µs) are also higher, offering superior AC performance. Concurrently, its quiescent current (200µA per channel) is lower, improving power efficiency. However, its operating voltage range (10V to 30V) is narrower, preventing support for the original part's 3V low-voltage startup or 36V high-voltage applications. Also, its input offset voltage (3mV) is slightly higher, which may be unsuitable for applications demanding high DC precision. If your application operates within a 10-30V supply range and requires high input impedance, better AC performance, or lower power consumption, the TL062ACDE4 is an excellent upgrade alternative.
