1. LF347BD Substitution Conclusion
The LF347BD is not a direct substitute and must be carefully evaluated based on the application. The primary differences are as follows: The LF347BD is a J-FET input op-amp, featuring an input bias current (50 pA) significantly lower than that of the original BJT-type LM2902 (90 nA). This gives it an advantage in applications such as high-impedance sensor signal conditioning, where input error current is critical. However, its input offset voltage (3 mV) is slightly higher, and its minimum operating voltage is 7V, which does not cover the LM2902's operating range down to 3V. This means it may not function correctly in single-supply 3.3V or 5V systems. Furthermore, its output drive capability (31 mA) is somewhat weaker than the Original Part (40 mA), requiring attention when driving heavy loads. Substitution can be considered if the application circuit operates above 7V and requires low input bias current, but the offset voltage and drive capability must be verified to meet system requirements.
2. LF347D Substitution Conclusion
Similarly, the LF347D is not a direct substitute. Its feasibility conclusion is highly similar to, yet slightly different from, the LF347BD. It shares the J-FET input architecture, extremely low bias current (50 pA), the same 7V minimum operating voltage limitation, and dynamic performance (slew rate 13V/µs, bandwidth 3 MHz) with the LF347BD. Consequently, it also cannot be used in low-voltage systems from 3V to 7V. The key distinction from the LF347BD is its higher input offset voltage (5 mV), which may result in poorer DC accuracy compared to both the original part (2 mV) and the LF347BD. However, its output current (40 mA) matches the Original Part, so there is no compromise in drive capability. Substitution is only possible in applications where the supply voltage is ≥7V, there is a strong requirement for low input bias current, and the higher offset voltage is acceptable.
