Substitution Feasibility Conclusion
AG01AWK is not a direct substitute for RL105GP-TP. Although both are 600V axial diodes, they differ significantly in key electrical parameters and structural design, which may affect system reliability or performance.
Comparison Points
1. Recovery Speed and Reverse Recovery Time
- RL105GP-TP is a standard recovery diode (>500ns), while AG01AWK is a fast recovery diode (trr = 100ns).
- AG01AWK is suitable for higher-frequency switching circuits (e.g., switching power supplies, high-frequency rectification), whereas RL105GP-TP is only appropriate for line-frequency or low-frequency rectification. Direct substitution may cause RL105GP-TP to overheat and fail under high-frequency operation.
2. Forward Voltage Drop (Vf) and Rated Current
- RL105GP-TP: Vf ≤ 1.1V at 1A; AG01AWK: Vf ≤ 1.8V at 600mA.
- AG01AWK exhibits a significantly higher Vf, leading to greater conduction loss and lower efficiency at the same current. Its rated current of 500mA is also lower than the 1A rating of RL105GP-TP, requiring derating and potentially limiting power handling capability.
3. Reverse Leakage Current and Voltage Withstanding Characteristics
- RL105GP-TP leakage current is only 5µA @ 600V, while AG01AWK reaches 100µA @ 600V (a 20× difference).
- The higher leakage current of AG01AWK may cause additional power dissipation or voltage stability issues in high-impedance or high-temperature circuits, making it unsuitable for high-precision or low-power applications.
4. Structure and Thermal Design
- AG01AWK does not provide capacitance parameters and uses a ceramic package (common for high-frequency diodes); RL105GP-TP specifies a capacitance of 15pF @ 4V.
- AG01AWK may be optimized for high frequency, but its high Vf and leakage current offset its speed advantage. The capacitance characteristics of RL105GP-TP are more suitable for suppressing low-frequency noise.
Recommendation:
If substitution is necessary, it should be limited to low-frequency rectification applications with current ≤ 500mA, and thermal rise and efficiency loss must be evaluated. For switching power supplies or high-frequency applications, a fast recovery diode with lower Vf and matching current rating should be selected.
