Original Part
Shunt Voltage Reference IC Adjustable 2.495V 36 VV ±0.5% 100 mA SOT-23-3

Alternative Part
1. NCP432BVSNT1G Substitution Conclusion
The NCP432BVSNT1G cannot be used as a direct (pin-to-pin) replacement for the TL431BCDBZR. There are fundamental differences in their core electrical parameters, and a blind substitution will result in circuit failure.
While both are adjustable shunt references in SOT-23-3 packages with similar reference voltages (2.5V) and tolerances (±0.5%), their critical difference lies in a complete reversal of current capability. The TL431 can sink up to 100mA, whereas the NCP432's maximum cathode current is only 40µA. Concurrently, the TL431 requires a minimum cathode operating current of approximately 600µA, while the NCP432 needs only 100nA (typical).
Consequently, the TL431 is designed to drive loads requiring significant power (e.g., optocouplers, directly driving a transistor as an error amplifier). In contrast, the NCP432 is a micropower reference, providing only a high-precision voltage reference with virtually no load-driving capability.
Substitution may only be possible in specific applications where the original circuit uses the TL431 solely as a pure voltage reference with extremely low operating currents. However, in the vast majority of standard applications, such as switch-mode power supply feedback loops, a direct replacement is not feasible.
