1. AD828ANZ Substitution Conclusion
Summary:
While the AD828ANZ is a direct drop-in replacement for the LT1492CN8 in terms of physical footprint, its core performance parameters (bandwidth, slew rate) far exceed those of the original part, and it draws significantly higher supply current. This makes it a non-universal substitute. Specifically, the AD828ANZ is a high-speed, high-slew-rate video op amp. Its 130 MHz bandwidth and 450 V/µs slew rate enable it to handle high-frequency or fast-transient signals (e.g., video signals). In contrast, the original part, with its 5 MHz bandwidth and 3 V/µs slew rate, is suited only for general-purpose low-frequency or DC precision amplification. Furthermore, substitution would lead to a more than sevenfold increase in power dissipation, as the AD828ANZ has a total quiescent current of 14 mA versus a typical 1 mA for the LT1492. This is unacceptable in battery-powered or low-power designs.
The AD828ANZ can be considered a "performance upgrade" option only if the original application genuinely requires high-frequency signal processing and the system has ample power supply headroom. For most typical applications such as general-purpose amplification or sensor signal conditioning, its excessive performance and power draw offer no benefit and may instead introduce stability or thermal issues. Therefore, substitution is not recommended.
