1. LM258D Substitution Conclusion Direct substitution is not recommended. The LM258D is a general-purpose bipolar operational amplifier whose input bias current (as high as 20nA) is nearly four orders of magnitude greater than that of the original J-FET type LT1464. This results in significant error currents and voltage drops when interfacing with high-impedance signal sources, such as sensors. Furthermore, its 3mV input offset voltage is five times that of the LT1464, directly introducing greater DC precision error. While the LM258D offers a wider supply range (3-32V) and stronger output drive capability, these advantages do not compensate for its significant shortcomings in critical input-stage parameters. Consequently, the LM258D is unsuitable for applications requiring high input impedance, low input current, and good DC precision, such as integrators, photodiode amplifiers, and high-impedance buffers.
2. TL032ID Substitution Conclusion Recommended as a high-performance direct replacement candidate. The TL032ID, like the original LT1464, is a J-FET input amplifier. Its core DC precision parameters are highly compatible: an input bias current of 2pA (same order of magnitude) and an input offset voltage of 570µV (very close). Its supply range (10-30V) is identical. In most precision DC and AC applications, its quiescent operating point and accuracy performance can be considered equivalent. A primary advantage is its slew rate of 5.1V/µs, which is over five times faster than that of the LT1464. This gives the TL032ID superior transient response speed for large signals and makes it less susceptible to distortion from slew rate limitations. The TL032ID maintains the original precision performance while offering improved dynamic performance, making it a pin-compatible upgrade.
