1. LM358AM Substitution Conclusion Substitution feasibility is low, limited to non-precision, low-impedance signal applications. Key differences include an input bias current (45 nA vs. 0.5 pA) nearly five orders of magnitude higher, an input offset voltage (2 mV vs. 600 µV) more than three times greater, and a significantly higher quiescent current (1.5 mA vs. 290 µA). The LM358AM is unsuitable for high-impedance sensor interfaces, precision integration, or weak current detection—applications sensitive to input error and power consumption. Its advantages lie in a wider supply range (3–32 V) and higher output current (30 mA), making it acceptable for general-purpose voltage amplification or comparator circuits.
2. LM358M Substitution Conclusion Substitution feasibility is moderate, suitable for medium-speed, non-precision general-purpose circuits. Compared to the LT1464, its input bias current (45 nA) and offset voltage (2 mV) remain 1–3 orders of magnitude worse, and its quiescent current (1.6 mA) is about five times higher, thus precluding use in high-accuracy or low-power designs. However, its gain-bandwidth product (1 MHz) is comparable to the original part, and it offers stronger output current (40 mA) and a wider supply range (3–32 V). Substitution may be considered in applications where DC precision is not critical, source impedance is low (e.g., audio filtering, voltage following), and higher drive capability is required.
