1. OPA656U Substitution Conclusion
While the OPA656U maintains package compatibility (both are 8-SOIC) with the original LT1722CS8TRPBF, there are notable technical differences. The OPA656U offers higher slew rate (295 V/µs vs. 70 V/µs) and gain-bandwidth product (230 MHz vs. 200 MHz), making it better suited for high-frequency or fast transient response applications. Its extremely low input bias current (2 pA vs. 40 nA) also makes it ideal for high-impedance sensor interfaces to minimize error. However, it has a higher input offset voltage (250 µV vs. 100 µV), which may degrade DC accuracy, and a higher quiescent current (14 mA vs. 3.7 mA), increasing power consumption. Additionally, its wider supply voltage range (8–12 V vs. 5–10 V) may restrict use in low-voltage systems.
Therefore, substitution with the OPA656U is feasible if the application prioritizes high speed and low input current, while tolerating higher power consumption, supply voltage, and DC error. Conversely, for designs emphasizing low power, low voltage, or high DC precision, substitution is not recommended.
2. OPA656UB Substitution Conclusion
The OPA656UB shares nearly identical specifications with the OPA656U, with the key distinction being an even lower input bias current (1 pA vs. 2 pA), further reducing input current-induced error. All other differences remain the same as the OPA656U: higher slew rate and gain-bandwidth product, but larger input offset voltage, higher quiescent current, and a wider supply voltage range.
The OPA656UB holds a slight advantage in applications demanding ultra-low input bias current, such as photodetection or high-precision integrator circuits. However, it similarly faces drawbacks in DC accuracy, increased power dissipation, and supply compatibility.
Substitution feasibility depends on whether the original design prioritizes speed and input current performance. If higher offset voltage and power consumption are acceptable, and the power supply supports the higher voltage range, the OPA656UB can be considered as an alternative. Otherwise, substitution is not advised.
