1. LM258D Substitution Conclusion
Direct substitution is not feasible. This device is only suitable for non-critical circuits with extremely low requirements for precision and speed, and where the supply voltage meets specifications. The LM258D exhibits significant performance gaps compared to the LT1124 in key parameters: its input offset voltage is as high as 3mV (120 times that of the LT1124), which will severely degrade DC accuracy and introduce unacceptable errors in applications such as sensor amplification. Its gain-bandwidth product is only 1.1MHz and its slew rate is a mere 0.3V/µs (9% and 7% of the LT1124's, respectively), leading to substantially reduced circuit frequency response and signal processing speed, rendering it incapable of handling audio or moderate-speed signals. Its primary advantages are extremely low quiescent current and a wider common-mode voltage range. It may only be considered for applications sensitive to power consumption where signals are strictly DC.
2. MC4558CDT Substitution Conclusion
Conditional substitution is possible. This device is suitable for general-purpose amplification circuits with low to medium speed and non-critical DC accuracy requirements. A careful assessment of system error and dynamic response is mandatory. The MC4558CDT is a classic general-purpose dual op-amp. Its performance lies between the LT1124 and the LM258, but it still shows a significant gap compared to the LT1124: its input offset voltage is 1mV (40 times that of the LT1124), an error that must be accounted for in applications requiring mV-level precision. Its gain-bandwidth product of 5.5MHz and slew rate of 2.2V/µs (44% and 49% of the LT1124's, respectively) are adequate for many audio and general-purpose applications, but its capability to handle high-frequency or fast transient signals is limited. It is relatively close to the LT1124 in terms of supply range, power consumption, and package. If the original circuit has sufficient design margin and the associated performance degradation is acceptable, it can serve as a lower-cost alternative.
