Design & Selection
The PAM3112DAB120 (Diodes Incorporated) is suitable for low‑voltage digital core power supply and portable mixed‑signal devices sensitive to low‑frequency noise, specifically for 1.2V fixed‑voltage rails of MCUs, DSPs, FPGA cores, as well as portable audio equipment, sensor nodes, or BLE modules.
Compared with the LT1521 (wide‑voltage robust) and TCR2DG (extreme miniaturization), this device is characterised by the following three aspects:
-
Low‑frequency ripple rejection: PSRR is 70dB at 100Hz and 65dB at 1kHz, capable of filtering noise from AC‑DC adapters (50/100Hz ripple) and low‑frequency PWM‑type DC‑DC pre‑regulators. For portable audio, high‑precision ADCs/sensors, and 2.4GHz RF circuits (e.g., BLE/Wi‑Fi), it provides a low‑noise power supply.
-
Low dropout voltage and quiescent current: Typical dropout voltage is 0.3V at 300mA full load, suitable for single‑cell lithium batteries (4.2V~3.0V) powering a 1.2V core with low heat generation. Typical quiescent current is 65µA (max 90µA), higher than the LT1521’s 12µA but acceptable in the 300mA class; the enable pin can shut it down to nA levels.
-
Package and transient response: TSOT‑25 package with large pad pitch, suitable for mass production with standard processes and reworkable with a soldering iron. It features fast load transient response, requiring only a 2.2µF ceramic capacitor for stability, suppressing output overshoot/undershoot during digital core current steps.
Hard constraints:
- Input voltage must not exceed 5V; absolute maximum rating is 6.0V. It cannot be used on 12V/24V industrial buses, and cannot withstand hot‑plug spikes exceeding 6V in 5V systems.
- High‑frequency PSRR is not specified; the datasheet only provides data up to 1kHz, so caution is needed for suppression capability with high‑frequency RF power amplifiers (e.g., GSM modules).
- Output is fixed at 1.2V, non‑adjustable; other voltage options require different models in the PAM3112 series.
Summary: Suitable for projects powered by 5V USB input or single‑cell lithium batteries, where both digital cores (1.2V) and analogue/RF circuits coexist on the board. Not applicable for backup power anti‑backfeed or high‑voltage input scenarios.
