Additional Information
Pin-configurable oscillators are active clock devices that directly select output parameters through external pin logic levels (hardware jumpers or GPIOs). The device pre-stores multiple frequency or output mode configurations internally, and upon power-up, automatically loads the corresponding settings based on the pin states, requiring no software programming or serial communication. This allows a single component to cover multiple system clock requirements. Compared to fixed-frequency oscillators that output only a single frequency, this device offers a limited selection of pre-configured frequencies via hardware pins, preserving plug-and-play characteristics while helping to reduce the number of oscillator part numbers in the BOM, thereby simplifying procurement and inventory management. Compared to fully programmable oscillators—which support arbitrary frequency writing via interfaces such as I²C/SPI and offer a wider configuration range but require host intervention for power-up initialization—pin-configurable devices eliminate this process, outputting the selected frequency immediately upon power-up. When selecting such devices, it is essential to verify the match between the available frequency list and system requirements, evaluate the consistency of frequency stability and jitter specifications across all frequency points, and confirm the compatibility of pin logic levels with the host’s GPIOs.
